MAIN SUMMARY IN SHORT

The main characters Dante and Shay have been best friends since their childhood. They have spent their most time together. They always stick with eachother. Both of them live in a Brooklyn neighborhood. This place is going through some big changes. Many families of this place are being made to leave the place due to gentrification.
Here, Shay's family is affected by the changes. They're getting ready to move from this place to another. The environment is filled with a strong feeling of sadness. Dante is also there. He is assisting Shay's family. He is witnessing their life and community being taken apart.
Before parting ways, Shay gives Dante a special gift - an "eraser tattoo" as a goodbye present. She uses an eraser on his arm, creating a spot where memories of her can fade if Dante wants. The symbol is so powerful, showing how things in their lives are temporary, and there's a fear of forgetting each other.
Without Shay around, Dante feels lost most of the time. He deals with the neighborhood changes, missing his friend much, and trying to fit in at school. Dante struggles a lot with feelings of anger and confusion, occasionally taking it out on others in his surroundings.
